How Long Do Reusable Ice Cubes Last?
One of the most common questions we get asked about Chlax reusable ice cubes is: how long do they actually stay cold? It's a fair question β and the answer might surprise you.
How Long Do Chlax Reusable Ice Cubes Stay Cold?
Chlax reusable ice cubes maintain cooling for up to 48 hours depending on conditions. That's significantly longer than regular ice, which typically melts within a few hours in warm Australian conditions.
In real-world use, customers consistently report their Chlax cubes staying frozen from morning to evening β through full days at the beach, fishing trips, footy games, and backyard BBQs.
What Affects How Long Reusable Ice Cubes Last?
Several factors influence how long your Chlax ice cubes stay cold:
- Ambient temperature β the hotter the environment, the faster they warm up. In a cool room they'll last much longer than in direct sun on a 35Β°C day
- How often the esky or container is opened β every time you open it, warm air gets in and reduces cooling time
- Starting temperature of your drinks β Chlax cubes maintain cold, they don't create it. Pre-chilling your drinks and esky first gives you the best results
- Volume of ice vs drinks β more Chlax cubes relative to drink volume means longer-lasting cold
- Insulation quality β a well-insulated esky or drink cooler will extend cooling time significantly
- How fully they're frozen β cubes that haven't frozen all the way through won't last as long
How Long Do They Last in an Esky?
In a well-insulated esky with pre-chilled drinks, Chlax reusable ice cubes can keep your drinks cold for a full day and beyond β easily covering a long day outdoors without needing to top up with regular ice.
How Long Do They Last in a Glass?
In a glass at room temperature, Chlax cubes will keep your drink cold for 1β2 hours depending on the ambient temperature and glass material. Thicker glassware and tumblers retain cold better than thin glasses.
How Long Do Reusable Ice Cubes Last Overall (Product Lifespan)?
This is a different question β and the answer is even better. With proper care, Chlax reusable ice cubes are built for trip after trip. Simply rinse after each use, return to the freezer, and they're ready to go again.
Every trip you use them is a bag of ice you didn't have to buy.
Tips to Make Your Chlax Ice Cubes Last Longer
- Freeze them fully before use β spread on a tray for 8 hours, or allow up to 48 hours if freezing in the bag

- Start with cold drinks β don't use Chlax cubes to chill warm drinks from scratch
- Keep the lid closed as much as possible
- Store in the shade β direct sun dramatically reduces cooling time
